Tips From The Trade: Wine on Main

Welcome to “Tips from the Trade,” a new series where we chat with our partners and friends in the business on all things related to the business of wine. Learn from the experts how Czech wine adds value to their portfolio and the customer buying experience. Each story is unique and provides exposure to the diverse and approachable varieties that Czech wine has to offer.

We are kicking off the series with a long-standing partner, Wine on Main. It is a pleasure and a privilege to have them in our inaugural Q&A sesh. Without further ado, we’d like to introduce Wine on Main.

Q: Tell us about your business. What is your focus and what makes you unique?

Wine on Main (Jenn and Rich) has a simple philosophy: to make the joy of sharing good wine accessible to everyone. This means selling high-quality wines from around the globe at a reasonable price, working closely with Wine Brokers to learn and hand-select each bottle.  We take pride in seeking limited production, uncommon and specialty wines. By working closely with vineyards with smaller capacities, we are able to obtain top-quality wines at an attractive price point. Wine on Main thrives on providing personalized and memorable experiences to our customers and community.

Q: When did you first try a Czech wine and what did you think?

We first tried Czech wines over 4 years ago at our previous wine store. My first thought was how approachable & tasty the wines are.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression. The better the tasting experience is on the first sip, the better the chance of customers coming back for more. Czech wines are defined by their terroir which provides for predominantly higher acidity and lower alcohol, making them both approachable and tasty!

Q: What does Czech wine bring to your portfolio and your customers?

Czech wines bring interest and variety to our customers for branching out to new wines.

According to SevenFifty, there is heightened demand for discovering lesser-known wines as consumers are interested in trying new wines rather than quickly ordering curbside. Czech wines are elusive to the US market for many reasons, not least because the country consumes more than it produces. But the region is seeing a renaissance and becoming increasingly popular in international markets. Czech wine is an excellent option for those wanting to experience a bit of winederlust.

Q: What one thing do you wish your customers knew about Czech wine?

That there are many organic winemakers in the region and the wines tend to be lower in alcohol. The versatility of Czech wines is diverse with a myriad of styles to suit most any taste.

Check out our recent webinar with Vinexpo on the Versatility of Czech Wines and find out why they are favored by the trade. Spoiler alert: Czech wines are incredibly food friendly and perfect gastro wines.

Q: Which Czech wine is your go-to recommendation for people?

The Pinot Noir of the region is unique and a wonderful option for those looking for a lighter-than-Burgundy style of Pinot Noir but with all the flavor and racy acidity.

Check out the wines of Krasna Hora Winery. They don’t call themselves “The Pinot Family” for nothing.
