How to BYOWine to the Golf Course with Corkcicle

Here in Massachusetts, some of the first “non-essential” businesses that could reopen were golf courses. And for me at least, league night is once again a thing. And while courses are open, we’re still practicing social distancing. Clubhouses are still closed (better pee before you get there) and please pay online, stay by your car until your tee time and don’t you dare show up more than 10 minutes early. Things are changing soon, but nevertheless, can’t hurt to be prepared.

All this also means there will be no beverage cart!!!  So, you better bring your own water, snacks and (gasp) wine!

Yep, done that before….

So while social distancing has changed how we play, it hasn’t changed my wine preference on the course. As I was reminded at my golf league last night when a woman whom I had not had the opportunity to play with at league before suddenly remarked, “I remember, you were the happy one, you had wine”.

What does it say about you when people remember you because of wine?

In this context, Bev remembered me from an event the year before.  We’d played together, and sure, she looked familiar to me, but I couldn’t remember specifics. She could. She remembered that I’d squirreled away some wine in my bag. In fact, once reminded, I remembered that it was a chilly, drizzly round on a long, hilly and arduous course.  I’d brought some Cuvee Bernety in my trusty corkcicle. And yes that made me smile despite the weather. It might have even helped my game.

I’ll admit, often when golfing, a quick beer from the beverage cart works fine – sometimes they’ll even make you a bloody mary. That’s admittedly better, but extremely rare.  However, the beverage cart never has decent wine to offer. So sometimes I just bring my own (did I mention I’m a wine drinker?). I have a flask, but honestly, a Corkcicle of wine – well that just works.

So, as social distancing and no beverage carts continue to be the norm on the course, I’ll continue to schlep my wine (and copious amounts of water). Corkcicle to the rescue. Amanda and I are headed to western mass in a couple of days to play one of my favorite courses, Crumpin Fox, and while I’m quite sure I’ll be peeing in the woods, I’m also very sure Amanda and I will not be missing the beverage cart.

And, if you aren’t familiar with Corkcicle, or aren’t yet sold on the hype, I’d advocate that you should be. Pre-social distancing, I would have shared a bottle on the course, but even still, I’m quite capable of drinking a full bottle of wine on my own in a 5 hour round - especially if it’s not a great round.  My Corkcicle fits a full bottle if desired. And, as I’m sure you all know, golf is subject to climate - hot or cold - and my Corkcicle keeps my wine at temperature, regardless. AND I carry my golf bag (it’s not a stand bag, so drop it on the ground for every shot).  Corkcicle has never leaked.
We promote brilliant wines, well this is a brilliant product to tote said brilliant wines.
